What has gotten into me?

In the process of remodeling this place I have compiled a 2 page list of things I apparently "need" for the house. Unfortunately, my checkbook isn't quiet as full as my head!

SO, I have started to put some of the ideas I have found on some of my favorite design and craft blogs into action! I am having so much fun with it! Now, I've added a new craft room to that 2 page list!:)

My mom called me from a yard sale a couple of months ago while guarding this dresser for me. It was in terrible shape, but was perfect for Miss Kenna Mae's room. It has a ton of drawers, but is narrow so it doesn't take up much floor space. I had a vision for it, too!

Let's just say that by the time I finished this dresser my vision was a fire burning brightly in the fireplace! It was a PAIN IN MY NECK!! Everything that could go wrong, did! But, I managed to make it work...

Before...

This was the biggest reason for my pain. While sanding I noticed that whoever owned it before had reeeeaaallly messed it up! I had to get creative!

After...

I LOVE the glass top! I plan on putting tons of pictures underneath it! This is what I came up with to cover up the basically unfixable issue with both sides of the dresser. FABRIC! I just used a spray adhesive and smoothed the fabric on. I LOVE it! I found the cutest ruffle trim to hide the ugly edges of the fabric. I wish I would have gotten a closeup of it! It adds such a cute detail!

I added these little birds I found at the dollar tree to the top. I spray painted them red because they were an ugly sand color before.
This is an idea I found on a super cute blog I like to peak in on from time to time. Go here to check her out. Her's is MUCH cuter than mine!

My Christmas Star 2009

The theory of this Christmas star is super easy. Cut out the shapes, modge podge, smooth out paper, modge podge again. DONE.

BUT, Krista and I did this project together and it took us 5 hours....as in F.I.V.E. hours! I guess when you're not an experienced crafter it just takes time!:) It was super fun though!

I'd love to get a group together once a month to do a fun craft! Anyone? Maybe when I have that craft room I'll do that!
Krista's Christmas Star 2009

These old frames were left here at the house when we moved in. I finally found the perfect use for them!
Before...
TA DA...
Before....
Voila....
A super fun entry way filler!:)
My biggest piece of advice for these frames is to clean them VERY good before and use PRIMER! I know it is a pain to spray paint what feels like a thousand coats, but it is worth it! I didn't prime the white mirror I painted in Kenna's room and I SO regret it! These look so much smoother and "crisper"! Lots of thin layers WORKS BEST!
So there you have it! What I've been doing in my garage all hours of the day and night. One night I made myself sick from all the spray paint!! I had 3 or 4 projects going at once! SO FUN!
SO go find something to spray paint. Or Modge Podge! You will LOVE it!:)

ME, ME, ME, ME!!!! I AM IN ON A CRAFT NIGHT! I'M NOT A REAL CRAFTY PERSON, BUT I WANT TO BE AND I DO HAVE THE GENES FROM MY MOMMA TO BE ARTSY. I know they're in there somewhere, so I'd like to find them and put them to use!

I love the "new" dresser! You did a great job with it, especially the creative way to cover the sides. Who cut the glass top for you? Is there someone in Childress who does that? And I LOVE the Christmas star idea. That would be a really cute gift idea, especially for grandparents with kids' pictures printed onto card stock and put on some of the panels...I'm thinking a craft night would be a good idea! :)

My checkbook is NEVER as big as my head! :) I love everything you did!

The topper is simple! They have kits at Sams or I just bought some sticks, etc. at Hobby Lobby and stuck it in the top of my tree. Seriously! That's all there is too it!

Amy,

Thanks for looking my blog up! I have browsed your blog before, as I told Jason yesterday and just think it is so cute! I love the name Pirates & Princesses! I thought I found you via Robyn Byars (through a blog by Shelley), but maybe it was Whitney Johns. Who knows? The blogging world is so small, I guess!

I love what you have done to your home. I may have to post again asking paint colors and flooring choices. I'm always working on our house, which was built in the 70's, so you can imagine!

I know exactly which blog you saw the Christmas star on, too. I've been wanting to do it, but just haven't taken the time to sit down and try it. It looks wonderful and so festive! You did a great job (I'm glad you tried it and let us know that it took 5 hours).

Thanks again for leaving a comment on my blog and I look forward to becoming "blog friends" with you, as well.
