Yesterday when I was in Wal-Mart with my Mom Kenna Mae kept complaining that it was cold. As Mother's, you all know what that means. When it's not cold, but your baby is freezing. She didn't feel warm yet so I just took her home and put her down for a nap. My little sister, Kaylan, came over about 4:30 to watch the kids for me while Jason and I went to look at a house. Which was SUPER cute, but way to small!
When I got home I walked into my bedroom where Kenna was sleeping and her face was bright red. FEVER. AGAIN. So, instead of taking her to the gym with us, we gave her some Motrin and Kaylan stayed with her so that we could get our workout in. When we got home, it all went downhill.
It had been about an hour and a half since she had medicine and her fever had gone up from about 103 to 104. Which worried me that it was rising instead of falling. We called Craig and he called us in some antibiotics, just in case, to pick up today. OK...wait it out until morning. I can do that. But when I checked her fever about 30 minutes later it had shot up to....105.7!! I have been a Momma for 9 years. We have 4 sickly children. I have never experienced a fever that high before. I went into panic mode. I was ready to load her up and take her to the ER. But Jason called Craig again and he calmed us down and told us to put her in a cool bath. Have you ever put a 3 year old with almost a hundred and six fever in a cool bath? IT WAS TORTURE on her. She screamed the whole time. Kate, sweet Kate, offered to get in with her to try to calm her and it worked for a while. By the time we could take her out she was crying and shivering and it was TERRIBLE! But it worked! Her fever went down to 102 almost immediately and then fell slowly from there. She is feeling better today, but I am going to pick up those antibiotics for her. Poor baby! I have no idea what is wrong with her. We just finished a 10 day round of meds last Wednesday. One week later, here we are again.
Kenna, after surviving Whooping Cough at 2 months old, has been our healthiest child. She was sick for the first time since 2 months last November. Then not again until about 3 months ago which has been a steady flow of snot, sore throats, coughs, and fever! I am seriously worried about her.
If any of you out there are business owners, you know how hard it is to find insurance at a reasonable rate. We finally got insurance in December. Our plan, however, only allows 2 visits a year per child. Kenna is already half way to her limit and it's only January 24th. AGGGG!
Please pray for sweet Kenna. I'm beginning to worry!

BOTH of my kids have the flu, and they both had the flu shot months ago!
AAAAGGGGGHHHH!
Kids and sickness stink. It sometimes takes FOREVER to get them well. I too have thrown kids in cool baths due to high fever. It's tough and you feel so bad for them, but it's what is best.
Sounds like what God does for us sometimes. He does what is best for us even though we don't like it and it makes no sense to us.
I love the fact that Kate was willing to get in with her. That is an awesome story.
There has got to be a better insurance plan than that. Maybe she needs to see and ENT. We have a friends whose daughter is 3 and is getting her adnoids and tonsils out because she has had a steady stream of snot that they can't get rid of for months! I hope she gets better!
Hang in there AMY. Summer is just around the corner... and hopefully this sick season will be over... I totally understand.. everything ....especially when our kids are sick it SCARES me... take care of yourself...
let me know if you need something...steph
I have been the child in the cold water because of high fever---NO FUN at all! My sister sure didn't volunteer to get in with me!
Poor Kenna.....hope the antibiotics work quickly for her.
Yall need to talk to my husband about medical insurance and see if he can help! : ) 2 visits a year is crazy for kids!
That was SO sweet of Kate to get in the bath with her. I will pray for sweet Kenna. I don't know if this will make you feel any better but Christmas 2004 Ava was having a lot of fever and snotty nose, etc. One morning her fever spiked up to 106. She was puking. It was SO scary. Also, we were in Ohio and it was the day after Christmas. We took her to the evergency room. I thought for sure it was going to be something scary like meningitis or even worse. It was an EAR INFECTION. I couldn't believe it. I never knew fever could spike so high for an ear infection. She wasn't even swiping at her ear. Anyway, I hope she feels better soon. I'm glad you got that fever down. I hate seeing my babies sick like that!
Poor Baby.... Hope she is feeling better. I just love Kate, she is the absolute sweetest!
It is so hard when little ones are sick I have only had to do the cool bath once to one of my kids. It was so sweet that Kate got in there with her. Thanks for sharing. And I will be praying for her. Will you pray for my wife, Crystal, she is really tired, and pretty much worn to a frazzle. We have 3 little ones and she has been running on about 4 hours of sleep a night for 8 months or more. Thanks
