Yesterday we all pretended it was December 15th...
Today, lets all pretend it is January 3rd,
Kenna Mae's 6th birthday!
Words cannot describe how absolutely nuts we all are over this kid.
She makes me laugh every single day.
She also makes me want to pull my hair out every single day.
She is artsy and creative.
She is messy and lazy.
She wants to be a maid when she grows up...
yet has never cleaned her own room.
She loves her family with a passion
and her friends almost as much.
She hates to shop
but LOVES to get new clothes.
She is the 6 year old queen of bling.
One of her sweet friends asked her why she always looks so "fancy" at school yesterday.
She prefers 2 necklaces and at least 2 bracelets.
Let's not forget the hair bling please.
She made her momma proud with her answer...
"It's just who I am...and it's who my momma is too!"
P.E. is her least favorite subject at school.
Why?
Because she can't wear her furry boots.
She isn't fond of her tennis shoes!
Kenna Mae, you rock my world sweet girl!
I love you to the moon and back!
KM had her mind SET on a rainbow birthday party.
I tried everything to change her mind.
The cake she had her heart set on was a 6 layer cake
each layer a different color of the rainbow.
Mhmmm...
I'm serious.
She spotted it at the office one day this summer when throwing her a HUGE birthday party sounded like a fantastic idea.
That was before the low down dirty rotten holiday "crud" set in and my body was refusing to recover.
Praise the Lord, my #1 "light a fire under my rear to put me in gear"
friend, Shelley was here and she pumped me up and helped me make Kenna Mae's
"dream of a beautiful rainbow cake" come true.
Mhmmm...
Serious.
Here we are in various stages.
I would do a tutorial, but in all honesty, it's really not that hard.
*2 cake mixes.
*Follow box instructions.
*Separate into 6 small, even portions.
*I added a little jello the color I was going for to add some fun flavor.
*A LOT. As in A LOT of Wilton ICING GEL food coloring.
It is THE way to go folks when you want the vivid colors.
*Bake.
The end.
Ok, so it does sound a little easier than it actually was, but it's not like it was hard...
just time consuming.
And here we go.....
Lopsided! lol.
The birthday girl posing in her shirt made by ME!
DON'T YOU DARE ENLARGE THIS PICTURE TO LOOK AT DETAILS.
I AM NO SEAMSTRESS AND THOSE SEAMS ARE TERRIBLE!!!!
For her birthday, her daddy is building her one of the knock off kitchens by Ana White.
That's how it started anyway.
But, Jason is a go big or go home kinda guy and basically re-wrote the entire design to make it bigger to fit the princess better.
It's gonna be awesome.
Yes, I said GONNA.
Because if you look into the future and it's oh, say, January 25th or so, you will see that the kitchen is still being worked on.
It IS gonna rock though so I can't wait to show y'all when he finishes!
Opening her accessories for her non-existing kitchen.
Here is her daddy showing her his plans for the kitchen that will take up most of her room.
Good thing she'd rather sleep with Kate because we may have to move her bed out!!!
I kid.
Kinda.
"A refrigerator, and stove, and dishwasher?"
The test of my(ours, Shelley) effort...
And the crowd goes WiLd!
Not really, but
Kenna Mae LOVED it!
So it was worth every second.
Now, if you plan on making this cake...
1.) DEFINITELY use 6 different disposable cake pans. Trying to recycle by reusing 3 because you live in a small town that doesn't sell 6 disposable round pans at the same time means RETHINK THE PLAN.
2.) If you do not like the taste of fruity pebbles or fruit loops OMIT the jello. I'm not fond of a fruity pebble flavored cake. However, KM thought it was rather tasty!
3.) The reason it was a little tilted is because the middle of every cake stuck to the pan. I used oil, and flour, and was SUPER careful, but I just couldn't make it not pull apart. I'm sure some of you super bakers out there have a trick I don't know about.
4.) If you have a 6 year old that loves rainbows...be sure you layer them in ROY.G.BIV(minus the I) order.
SHE WILL NOTICE.
5.) If you want your six year old lover of all things colorful, over-the-top, and fun to love you to the moon and back...
YOU MUST MAKE THIS CAKE!
(tap.tap.tap. Is this thing still on?)

I love it!
there is a little secret for getting the cake no to stick. Wilton makes this stuff called "cake release." I use a paint brush to evenly apply it. Every time I use it the entire cake comes out nicely, when I don't..it doesn't. It's pretty amazing and lasts for a long time so its worth the investment of like 4 bucks. Great cake ideas! You're awesome!
I made this cake for Gracie!!! She LOVED it!!
What a cool and pretty cake! I love the shot with the slice taken out!
