I've really have so many projects swirling in my brain lately that I can't keep them all straight! My problem is that when we finally got to the decorating/fun part of finishing up this house, it was fall. So, out came all my pumpkins and turkeys and pilgrims.
Then, we moved straight into decorating for Christmas. Last week when I took down all the Christmas decor and got ready to set out all my "normal" decor I realized that I've never done "normal" with this house.
There are bare spots EVERYWHERE! And I am not a less is more kinda person.
I'm actually a more is more kinda person.
So, I've begun the process of decorating by making some of my own things and not spending as much cashola.
However, I've also recognized that a more is more kinda person often tends to spend more on something that should actually be less.
Does that make any sense to anyone else besides me?
Anyhow, I've discovered a super cute blog that I am obsessed with and it has the cutest blog name EVER...Tatertots and Jello. Now, how fun is that? I could spend all day flipping through her past posts. She has some of the best ideas!
I can't wait to see what she's got for me next Christmas, being that I've told Women's Council I will have my house on the Tour of Homes next year. (OMG, what was I thinking?) Maybe they will forget!;)
So, Alana and I were flying through looking at her stuff and came across her burlap wreath. It made my heart go pitter patter. It is SO SUPER cute! So Alana, being that she is SO my craft motivator, started chopping up some of her old skirts. Yep, so serious. And the next thing I knew we were on our way to itchy burlap and thousands of fabric circles.
And Alana was two less skirts. ;) Way to take one for the team girl!
Now, let me just say right now that it so oh so obvious that she, as in Tater Tot:), is a pro at the crafting thing. Hers is perfection! Mine, on the other hand, was obviously made by a very new to the crafting thing, matchy-matchy(I can't help it! I've tried to step out of my box and go for sloppy cuteness. It just doesn't work!),NO CRAFT ROOM, beginner. ;)
So, I give you MY burlap wreath...
TaaaDaaa...
And just to keep it real for ya, I left those candle sticks candle-less.
Tater Tot gives a very detailed, step by step tutorial on her blog. She has some AMAZING pictures. She makes me feel so inadequate!;) Just kidding, Tater Tot. I hope she doesn't mind me calling her that. We are still strangers and I already have a nickname for my craft mentor. ;)
I also must point out that she used a foam wreath. That would have been SO much easier! But, lets remember that little 'ol me lives in little 'ol Childress with only a measly Wal-Mart(and a not so great one at that)and there is NO foam wreath in this town. So, I used a grapevine wreath instead and wrapped it in burlap just like she did her foam one. It worked fine, I guess. I also used straight pins instead of brads because, again, no stinkin brads to be had in Childress. I hot glued the flowers on then poked the pins through the center with a sequin or bead.
I won't lie and tell you this project was hard. It was most definitely not hard. Time consuming, YES. Especially for someone that tends to lean on the OCD side of crafting. Like I said before, I struggle with all the colors coordinating, having enough flowers, blah, blah, blah!
Between picking up the house, picking up the kids, laundry loads, meal prep, clothes ironing, puppy bathing, basketball practices, volleyball practices, appointment making, and coffee drinking, I'd say it took me maybe 6-8 hours over a couple of days.
The WORST part of this project is cutting the burlap. O, MY, WORD! It makes a huge mess. I sat on the floor in our basement watching Kooper and Jason duke it out in some PS football and cut 5 million burlap circles and was covered in tiny, poky little pieces of burlap. ITCHY!!!
I read later that if you spray the burlap lightly with a water bottle it cuts down on the mess.
It's not as cute as Tater Tots, but I think it's not too shabby.
Up next on my project list, The Family Rules canvas. Tater Tot, Pleated Poppy, and ALL the cool crafters have done it!;)
Childress ladies, who wants to do the family rules for a GNO?
I think the best way is to have everyone buy their own supplies, OR you could get me some $$ and I could go one day and get the canvas'. I think we all have plenty of scrapbook paper to go around!;) Let me know if you have a good idea on how to make it work!
Happy Friday!
